WI Lady Scarecrows to Celebrate our Centenary!
WI members have been asked to help PMFWI celebrate its 100th Birthday by making a “WI LADY” (Scarecrow style) to be displayed in village and town centres across Powys throughout the month of August.

The scarecrows will feature in the County Times and readers will be invited to vote for their favourites, with the winning WI receiving a prize of £50!
An amazing 33 WIs have decided to enter and some are doing more than one!

Llangynog WI members decided to do a campaigning ‘Lady’ holding a ‘NOT IN MY NAME’ (White Ribbon Campaign) placard. This is a campaign which is currently very much supported by NFWI. The aim is to end Violence Against Women (VAW) by raising awareness and recruiting male ambassadors to make a pledge never to commit, excuse or remain silent about VAW.

Members got together in a Janet’s garden to make a start on the scarecrow. We even had Maureen’s grandchildren, Tabitha and Amelia, along to help! Finally, with aid of many helpers, and a useful bag of donated clothes, we managed to put our lady together and get her securely positioned, holding her placard.

What does the White Ribbon represent?
The White Ribbon Campaign is the largest worldwide movement of men working to end men’s violence against women. The white ribbon is a symbol of men’s opposition to male violence against women. Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
