Meeting: 16th August, 2014
Let them eat cake!

Llangynog W.I members did themselves proud by providing a large selection of delicious homemade cakes for the Llangynog and District Horticultural Show on Saturday 16th August. Members made and served the refreshments at this, the 83rd annual show, enabling visitors to relax with tea and cakes after viewing the array exhibits. We not only provided refreshments but also contributed to the exhibits, winning a good number of certificates and even cups!

A few days later, some of us met up again to go on the annual WI day trip to Aberystwyth. On arrival, we enjoyed coffee and a pleasant lunch overlooking the sea, followed by a bracing walk along the promenade. Next stop was the theatre to see Sister Act which had us all rocking in our seats. We thought the show absolutely marvellous - and certainly well worth seeing! An excellent day out was rounded off nicely with a tasty supper of cooked meats and salad followed by a choice of delicious deserts.

There was no official meeting this month but we have been busy organising and practising for a special W.I. event, entitled ‘For Home and Country’, to remember and commemorate the WW1 centenary. As well as a mixture of songs, sketches, poems and dance, we will tell the stories of those local soldiers who are commemorated on the Llangynog Memorial Plaque. We are also collecting anything relating to the time (military or domestic) in order to make a display. The event will take place on Saturday 11th October.
