Meeting: 8th September, 2021 |
It was a special occasion as it was our very first meeting back in the Hall since the onset of the pandemic!
Also, it was really lovely to meet-up with Maggie again, after such a long time. We were fascinated to hear about the development of long-case clock faces over the decades and the variations in style.
Maggie explained the differences in design from one region of the country to another and her talk was illustrated throughout with photos of the very many clock faces she had restored over the years.
It was particularly interesting to see the ‘before’ and ‘after’ photographs. Indeed, we were very impressed with both her knowledge and considerable skill!
Mary and Chris Browne provided us with some tasty cakes and savouries.
Chris Norwell and Joanne very kindly took on the hosting roles.
The raffle prize for this month was donated by Jan Gill and won by Hazel Owen. Jan also very kindly donated two tickets to see Rick Stein talking about his new book. The tickets also included a signed copy of the book.
It was decided to offer the tickets for auction to just our own WI members, in order to raise a little bit of money for our somewhat depleted WI coffers. The auction was online and there were several bidders.
Joanne put in the highest bid of £30… and is very much looking forward to the event!
