Two new WI members, Wendy Barker and Pam Parnell were warmly welcomed in at our April meeting and a visit from Jean Hurrell enabled all of us to hear more about the exciting courses on offer at Denman College.

The meeting room was transformed into a mini workshop and jewellery display area as this month’s speaker, Philippa Hughes, demonstrated the intricacies of making glass beads from thin tubes of coloured glass. Philippa described the process as she worked and explained about the different types of glass used for different purposes.

There was a fine display of jewellery showing what could be achieved with the process she was demonstrating, and we had the opportunity of buying pieces of exquisite glass jewellery, knowing that each item was unique. Members feel that they now have a much greater understanding and appreciation of the work that goes into such jewellery.

The evening was rounded off with tea and refreshments provided by Sheila Broome and Gill Hadley, where we talked about the Spring Show in Llansantffraid in May.
