Meeting: 14th May, 2014

Members of Llangynog WI were delighted to be part of such a wonderful display of floral art, craft, produce, photography and painting, at the WI Spring Show in Llansantffraid. There is obviously a huge amount of creative talent in the area! We were pleased to be awarded the Mrs Wigley Memorial Trophy for gaining the most points in the individual produce classes.

Anne Evans received first prize and a special award, for her outstanding cheese and herb scones. Ann Morgan and Pauline Nicholls were awarded second and third place, respectively, for their delicious marble cakes, and Mary McKenzie achieved second place for her blackberry cordial. Members certainly did Llangynog WI proud with their entries! There were button necklaces, decorated flower-pots, photos, floral art and even a painting, as well as scones, cakes, pizzas and cordials.

Our May monthly meeting was held in the home of one of our members who had kindly offered to accommodate us whilst our Memorial Hall was being prepared for the opening of the new extension. Unfortunately our speaker was unable to attend, but we were able to discuss WI matters in homely surroundings and enjoy a delicious supper provided by Anne Evans and Anne Saunders. The raffle prize was donated by Anne Saunders and won by Ann Morgan.

The Silver Salver was proudly displayed on the WI stall at the grand opening of Llangynog Memorial Hall extension, on Saturday May 17th.
