Meeting: 8th November, 2017
First at Last!

Members of Llangynog WI arrived early for their AGM and were greeted by the president, Mary McKenzie, holding aloft the much-prized Mona Jones Shield, awarded for overall winners of the WI Literary Eisteddfod.

Faced with strong competition from close friends and rivals, Penybontfawr WI, Llangynog has for some years strived to achieve success in this competition. In 2015, Llangynog WI won the Tydfil Roberts Cup for third place, in 2016 the Rose Bowl was awarded for second place, then finally, for the first time ever, they finally received the shield for first place!

Left: Val, Wendy, Pam and Anne, celebrating our success!
Right: The Mona Jones Shield for Literacy, including stories, poems, letters and limericks.

Close inspection of the shield revealed that Penybontfawr had won it at least seven times before, so Llangynog WI better not rest on its laurels.

Committee elected and business over, Julie Lloyd Evans, experienced local physiotherapist, gave an interesting and most informative talk covering the various aspects of her work ranging from the diagnosis of pain causation to the use of massage and acupuncture.

Still flushed with success, members enjoyed a tasty supper to round off the evening.

Competition: ‘Produce a logo for Llangynog WI’
1st: Maggie Parker (10 points)
2nd: Hazel Owen (9 points)
3rd: Pam Parnell (8 points)
