Meeting: 11th October, 2017
The Art of Ink Wash

Tables set with brushes, ink and paper welcomed members of Llangynog WI as they completed the evening’s business.

The speaker, accomplished artist Mike Spooner, described in detail the history of Japanese ink wash painting and demonstrated the ancient technique of grinding the ink stick in water.

He then showed members how to create delicate images such petals, leaves and flowers using simple strokes, brush movement and ink flow, resulting in tonal variations from pale grey to black.

Everyone then had the opportunity to express their own artistic ideas, using the ancient techniques demonstrated, and produced a variety of interesting, stylistic pictures.

A truly enjoyable evening was rounded off with a delicious supper provided by Anne Hill and Jennie. The raffle prize, a lovely china mug, was donated by Pam and won by Janet.
