Meeting: 8th February, 2017
Oyez, Oyez, Oyez

Llangynog WI welcomed members from Llandrhaeadr and Penybontfawr WIs to their February meeting where Martin Wood, the world’s tallest town crier, entertained everyone with a talk entitled ‘Have Bell, Will Yell’, which incidentally is also the title of his book.

Members learnt many fascinating facts and enjoyed his amusing anecdotes, as he donned his strikingly colourful town crier regalia. Martin concluded his talk with a brief bell-ringing demonstration; his bell being the largest ever ‘handled’ bell produced by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. This was specially commissioned for him by the now defunct Davenports brewery.

During the evening members wore green heart badges endorsing NFWI supported ‘Show the Love’ campaign, aiming to raise awareness of climate change. A tasty supper included green heart shaped cakes and biscuits!
