A Fond Au Revoir
10th March 2023
Members and friends gathered together at the New Inn to say au revoir to much valued WI member, Val Atherton, and her husband Mike.
Val and Mike are moving to the Midlands to be close to family. Although they absolutely love Llangynog, Mike’s poor health now dictates they need the security and support of family members close by.The good news is… for the time being Val is continuing to be a member of Llangynog WI and will visit whenever she can!
Val joined Llangynog WI at the beginning of 2015 and since then has been an extremely active member! As well as a long-standing committee member, she has served as both Programme Secretary and Treasurer. She regularly entered shows and competitions, and was particularly successful with her photography!
Also, we will never forget her amazing stage performances, particularly the time she stepped in last minute to play ‘Pigswill’ in our 2022 Christmas Show!

Llangynog members wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Val by arranging a farewell party. They provided the food and we were given permission to use a room at the New Inn for the occasion.
Val was presented with a couple of albums containing photos of her time with us, a book of messages and a garden centre voucher.
Even though the weather was absolutely atrocious lots of people still managed to attend and the room was packed with well wishers.
True to form, Val was busy taking most of the photos!
