'Cabaret' Theatre Severn (23rd October) Wow! John Partridge, who has appeared in EastEnders, captivated us from the minute his makeup-slathered face appeared through the 'O' of a gigantic 'Wilkommen' sign. Anita Harris was also amazing, as indeed, were all the cast. This show excellently combined scenes of an erotic and exciting nature (in the Kit-Kat Klub) with ominously dark scenes reflecting the Nazis increasing grip on Berlin. The end of the show was incredibly powerful. Not a sound could be heard as the sounds of a gas chamber flooded the stage and mist descended upon the naked and vulnerable performers as the final curtain fell. We left the theatre somewhat shell-shocked after being bowled over by this exceedingly powerful portrayal of a well-loved musical!
'Round and round the garden' This amateur production is part of the trilogy known as The Norman Conquests, by Alan Ayckbourn. It was light-lighted, funny and well-performed. We all enjoyed the play and felt it would be fun to see the other two plays in the trilogy. |
