A Wonderful Way (Federation Walk, Saturday 18th June 2016)

Llangynog WI were a delighted to be chosen to host this year's PMFWI Annual Walk. Our President, Mary MacKenzie, was tasked with organising two interesting walks (one of about two to three miles and another of about four to five miles). Other members kindly volunteered to supervise the walk and prepare a tasty tea to follow. In addition, Sarah, from 'Vicarage Farm', opened up her lovely garden and provided the walkers with a most welcome refreshment break! Members came from all over Powys Montgomeryshire and for many it was their very first visit to Llangynog!

Walking in the beautiful Tanat Valley was a wonderful way of spending a sunny, Saturday afternoon for WI members from Powys Montgomery Federation.

Setting out from the Memorial Hall

Setting out from Llangynog village, the walkers strolled up the valley, past pretty meadows and wooded slopes alongside the Tanat Stream, winding and tumbling on its way. Thirty minutes into the walk, members were treated to a visit to ‘Vicarage Farm’, where they were offered welcome refreshments in a lovely garden setting. And then off, up the lane to the picturesque church of Pennant Melangell with its ancient yew trees and famous shrine.

Leaving the church, the walk took members along a track which then led onto a green path running along the edge of the stream and through meadows of long grass. Over a wooden bridge, along the lane and back to the village for afternoon tea!
