Meeting: 11th March, 2026

March

Happy Hokey Pokey Hedgehogs

Having completed business matters on yet another wet and windy evening, members of Berwyn Belles welcomed Heather Chave from Hokey Pokey Hedgehog Rescue.

Members quickly learned that although hedgehogs are excellent swimmers and can swim a fair distance, they dislike the wet weather and prefer to stay warm and dry in their nests. Nocturnal animals, they have no close relations to any other mammals and have not changed much at all over millions of years. Although they will eat slugs and snails, they much prefer beetles, caterpillars, earwigs, worms and even fruit.

Heather was a mine of hedgehog information!

What a thoroughly fascinating and informative talk! Members now know where to take injured or vulnerable hedgehogs should they come across them. The meeting was then rounded off with a really tasty supper.
