Meeting: 11th March, 2020
Canal Boat Art

Llangynog WI’s March meeting really was on a wild, wet, windy night but there, in the Memorial Hall, Master Craftsman and Sign-writer, Dave Moore, gave WI members a fascinating insight into the background of, and later developments in, Canal Boat Art.

Using the vivid green, blue, red and yellow paints (no pastel shades here!), Dave explained and demonstrated the traditional painting process involved in creating the decorative, stylised art form seen throughout the canal network. Members were thrilled as Dave’s piece of artwork was transformed with the practised flick of the brush and the roses came to life.

The final result... a work of art !

Full of extremely interesting detail and anecdotal stories, Dave’s talk enabled members to have a greater feel for and understanding of the narrowboat community, who are so much part of our heritage.

A very tasty supper rounded off the evening as we all admired the finished work of art. The raffle prize, a bunch of roses and a box of 'Roses' chocolates, was donated by Gwenfyl Williams and won by Chris Norwell. Also, Dave Moore kindly donated his beautiful demonstration piece which was won by Anne Hill. The competition entries were outstanding this month!
