Still Going Strong!
Llangynog WI may have reached the grand age of 80 but it is definitely still going strong. This particular milestone was recently celebrated in style, with a glass of bubbly and an evening filled with music and dancing.

1938 was the year Neville Chamberlain made his ill-fated ‘Peace in Our Time’ speech, the first edition of the Beano was published, and most importantly, the Llangynog Women’s Institute was formed!

Members of the community, and other WIs, were invited to join Llangynog in a 30s, 40s and 50s themed open evening where they were splendidly entertained by the delightful Castle Belles ladies choir performing many popular songs of the era.

The audience not only sang along to classics such a “We’ll Meet Again”, “Swinging on a Star” and “Lipstick on your Collar”, but also joined in with dances such as the “St. Bernard’s Waltz” and the “Gay Gordons”.

The entertainment was concluded with a lively rock’n’roll routine, and the song “Sally”, movingly performed by Castle Belle soloist, Joan Dickinson. As Llangynog WI tradition dictates, the evening was nicely rounded off with a wonderful WI supper.
