Meeting: 13th July, 2022 |
Two guides from the National Trust property, Erddig, arrived at July's meeting with a thought-provoking talk about the property and its history, including the mystery surrounding one of its housekeepers, Ellen Penketh, a very over- worked lady.
Did she reach a low and steal funds from her employer, or was it a misunderstanding of financial ways? The WI were unsure of her guilt or innocence, however the jury at the time surprisingly found her innocent!
During the evening congratulations were given to soon to be 80 years young member, Jennie Eilbeck , who was presented with a beautiful painting, by Maureen Clark.
July's raffle, the prize being a lovely orchid, was presented by Hazel Owen and was won by Wendy Barker.
The evening was rounded off with an appetising supper produced by Anne Marsh and Mary McKenzie.
This month’s competition, a limerick entitled “There was a housekeeper called Ellen”, was won by Gwenfyl. Janet was second and Val third.
Painting of Glas y Dorlan, by Maureen Clark.
